Google search bought to you by the F-word. Turn off Google on homescreen?

Really I think I am just going to stop using it. It seems no matter what I search for with this so called safe search turned on strict I get links with profanity in them. Heck even in the titles and URL's of some of the links. What is the point of having a safe search feature that never works and has actually gotten worse during the years. Now it is not even limited to search but even the so called friendly "Google" forums are filled with profanity. Now I even switched over to Apple Music because believe it or not they actually censor the F and S word in the song titles something Play Music does not even with there so called "block explicit radio" box which on Apple Music blocks explicit albums from playlists and grays them out so they are unplayable. I also even stopped reading comments in Play Store because they are even profane in there too.

I love Android OS itself but I would have switched to Apple if it was not for the customization of the OS unlike iOS which does not let you do anything. Also since this is a Android forum and enough ranting is there anyway I can remove the Google Search bar from my home-screen and actually change it to something else like the ability to search my apps. Although I am using Nova Launcher I can remove Google search but not customize it to search my apps like I see when going into the app draw.

Now I know I am going to get the "free speech" so get it over with.

I was under the impression that safe search blocked explicit sites that were sexual. I don't think it will block profanity.

Then it is useless. Don't call it safe search then.

What on earth are you searching for where you're seeing such results? I don't think I've ever seen profanity on Google results.

Good question. The only time I've seen profanity is when I've searched for something profane. Even with safe search off, it's very rare I get anything like that unless it was specific to the search.

Just have to point out, that is quite an impressive rant about seeing a couple 'naughty' words.

As for how, first thing I thought was "Google, show me the dirtiest words you can find that rhyme with the word 'truck'".

Okay I will provide some links on so called "harmless" searches.

Searching for "Outsorced tech support forums". Slashdot a vulgar site. The last 10th Winamp forum link. Using the Verbatim search.
https://www.google.com/search?q=outsourcing+tech+support+forums&safe=active&source=lnt&tbs=li:1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj9t4r_45zOAhUCLB4KHUT6DfIQpwUIFg&biw=1920&bih=954

Searching for "Play store search terrible". The second link says F**k that and it from there own Google forum. If I don't use Verbatim.
https://www.google.com/search?q=play+store+search+terrible
Link with Verbatim. Reddit link which 99% is vuglar on google searches the s-word. Sure to be pleanty of f bombs if you actually click on the reddit link.
https://www.google.com/search?q=play+store+search+terrible&safe=active&source=lnt&tbs=li:1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiqnPu25JzOAhXBVh4KHQUADegQpwUIFg&biw=1920&bih=954

Now if those terms are not harmless what is and that is just the searches today. Not like I am searching "Apple sucks" or "Xbox fanboys losers suck". Even searching about "human evolution" and "is there life in the universe" sometimes gave me a few vulgar shady sites mostly from reddit.

I can't say I've noticed such things myself when doing searches. Perhaps they are there, but if so I must be automatically disregarding them.

...I just tried a search on "human evolution" myself, and noticed nothing amiss in the results, and I looked at six pages of them before stopping.

I recall there was a short period of time, maybe last year, where Google went overboard and made their safe search filters so strong that nothing came through. Google took a big hit from users about it and some users threatened to switch to Bing. Once Google realized people might change search engines, (unlikely!) they apparently eased way up and just basically nixed their safe search... well, at least it seemed that way. It's still there as an option now, but... well, you know... it's competition!

Your post reminded me of when my daughter was 10 years old (5th grade)... I took her and her friend Sarah, also 10, to Chuck e Cheese. Imagine my surprise when sweet little Sarah came up to me and said "You see that boy over there... he just called me a F....ing B...ch!"... all in perfect enunciation! I was shocked, I didn't even know what to tell her. The world has been slanting for a very long time and kids, even back then, were well aware... just as we were! Its no surprise that most people are not shocked with Google search results having profanities. We have all become immune to it... well, most of us anyways.

If you search Bing for "play store search terrible" you'll not find the F word anywhere like seen on the Google results. I looked through 9 pages and didn't see it. Maybe if I searched through more pages it would have shown up but I got tired! And, that search was with Bing's default settings of "moderate".

If you're not satisfied with Google search results, perhaps you should try Bing. It's actually said to have more relevant results than Google does, with less sidetracking. This is also what I've seen with Bing... even though I rarely use it. Just my opinion.

I do notice that Bing is less vulgar which is why I use to use it a lot and earned many points however the past two months it has been terrible. I been searching on Bing and all I get are many spam links when searching for tech problems which is why I had to stop using it. Even there image search still show pictures from months ago.

I did use Bing first before getting offended by Google search. As I said terrible results on Bing. Trying to push a Play store app ad. T-Mobile ad for the play store. Then I even get Windows Store articles and links. What the heck. One article is from 2012. Next page a spam link for Turbo Discount looks like a scam app. Terrible. I was not like this two months ago.

I just did that too and found nothing but a few months ago some reddit and Viceland site did show up that was vulgar which is why I said is sometimes gave me a shady sites.

I remember a couple of years ago doing a Bing search, Images, for "Guy Removal Van" or very similar, because I had seen such a vehicle in an old film. (For those who are unfamiliar, Guy was a British manufacturer of commercial vehicles and buses.) Well, interspersed among the images that were shown, there were quite a lot of pornographic images of "guys" in the cabs of trucks etc. I think I had Safe Search off, but even so, I was mildly surprised.
