I like my G1 slider keyboard, but I'm also used to using WM phones and they have a soft keyboard. I've played around with the iPhone keyboard and think it's ok. The G1 has a similar screen and think a soft keyboard would work on it too. Is someone going to make one for the G1? It would be nice to not have to slide it open for everything. Anyone heard anything?

Yes, I have heard that a group has started working on creating one for the G1. I too hope it will be released soon. It will be nice for quick replies to txt messages or emails when you don't want to open the keyboard every time.

Its not that the screen is not big enough, its that it does not support the same features as the iPhone. The G1 is just a regular touch screen. The iPhone supports multitouch so you can press a few things at once and it will accept and recognize the input. If you try that on the G1 then you will only have one key pressed. I think that an on screen keyboard would only slow people done when sending a message. Maybe they could get some thing for the portrait mode, like the blackberry suretype, but otherwise I think its a bad idea.

It would be perfect for the G-1, if I am using the G-1 mounted in my car for navigating or listening to music, I virtual keyboard would be great. I look forward to it. i don't multitouch my iphone keyboard when I type, I don't get the reason.

all the iphones have multitouch. . . Trust me, you would know the difference if you didnt have it. But if you are going to use it with one hand like that gps situation that may be nice for the gps app to add or something to that effect, would prolly be easier then a universal softkeyboard

I am looking forward to this " cupcake " project :)! Also, an on screen keyboard would add a nice little touch, instead of opening the keyboard everytime to type

Screen protectors would be a great idea if I knew how to put them on properly. I have never been able to put on screen protector correctly I seem to always get bubbles.

EDIT: Sorry tapatalk quoted a post from a different thread.

You would need a donor device, but that's all I'm going to tell you. As its technically illegal because it involves cloning the donor phones imei to the recipient device.

You could probably find out how to do it from a site like toms hardware.
