When I attach Nexus 9 to a PC, why aren't all of my apps showing?

When I attach Nexus 9 to a PC.

When I attach my Nexus 9 to a PC not all of the installed apps show. When I attach my Nexus 7 all of my apps show. Is this how it should be? Should I change something in the settings I have not noticed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! What do you mean that your apps show? You should only be able to see the directory structure, not the actual apps.

I did not word my question correctly. I do not see the folders when I attach my Nexus to my PC. I have some folders for the apps I have installed. But not all of them.

Is there a setting in the explorer to show hidden files/folders?

I linked my Nexus to a PC and a Mac. Both show the same thing. The same folders for only certain apps. I could not find a show hidden files / folders on the Nexus, Mac or PC. I shall have another look.

Do the app directories that you can't see have some common parent directory?

I tried a Windows 10 with all files and folders to show. Still the same. I have apps for different things not showing. Games, office etc.
Could it need a full restore perhaps?

Not sure. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to do a factory reset and set everything back up, if you don't mind the hassle.
