Textra has emoji add-ons you can install. For example there is one for iOS emojis, one for Twitter emojis...

Note: to use the add-ons you need to use Textra as you SMS app. It is a pretty decent replacement for messenger.

So I hate the emojis in messenger. I was using messenger on my Note 7 and the emojis were great. Why is there a difference on the Pixel vs. Note 7 within the same app?

Because the emojis are not part of the messenger app but in the system. Samsung uses different emojis then stock Android.

I switched to Textra because of the gif option built in to the attachments.

I am using Verizon's messaging for texting. It is the keyboard emojis that I loathe.
