Default talking text for Galaxy Nexus

I switched from a LG Chocolate Touch to the Galaxy Nexus. One thing I loved was that it would read me my texts, so if I was driving, I would hear my text. I can't figure out if the Nexus has this capability and if so, how to turn it on. Please help

Head into Settings > Accessibility > Text-to-speech output and monkey around in there. Theres lots of screen reading functionality.

It is not in accessibility. I can't find it. Does this phone not have it?

As I said, go into the Text-to-speech settings menu and turn on the feature. I believe you have to download an additional package (via the settings menu) to use it. It does work though.

If you are using bluetooth or the headphone jack when you drive a good app is Headphone SMS

It's the only app I could get to work flawlessly on my Nexus and it only reads texts (mutes whatever you're listening to) when bluetooth is activated or the headphone jack is used for audio...

i think he meant the "talkback" option which reads everything on the screen and is not what you're looking for

It is if you are running JB. Are you still on ICS? I can no longer check that for you but should be the same.

If you want, I can create a custom APK for you to do it.

My Nexus is Verizon, do you know if they are going to upgrade to Jellybean? Does Jellybean have the text to talk feature? I did download talkback and I didn't like it because it tells you everything you do to the phone. I just want a app that will talk out my texts so I can hear them when I am driving.
