How to restore new phone with Google Account

I had my phone stolen on Thursday and just got a new one x today. I really just need my contacts back and I noticed when I logged into google play it said "do you want to auto backup all contacts, settings, etc with play?"

I obviously said yes to this the first time I signed in to play when I got my old phone. The gmail account synced with my phone but all it did was bring in my email contacts and didn't bring in any of the number I had saved. Can someone help me I really need to just get these contacts back.

If all your old contacts were saved under 'google' they should appear when you sync the phone with your Google account, if they were all saved to the phone, you may only be able to get them back if the phone was backed up or if they were transferred across to a computer if you ever synced it with HTC sync manger
