(Apologies in advance - the forum software won't let me include links because I haven't made ten posts.)

I have a new (to me) G2 VS980 (Verizon) which came with Lollipop 5.0.2. I tried to root the phone using this method - highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-lg-g-flex-2-g2-g3-on-lollipop/. After step 12, the phone needed to be rebooted, and it was stuck on the LG screen with green & blue LED cycling.

I was able to get into download mode, and got it back to stock using the KDZ method at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 and VS98024A_11.kdz. That brought the phone to 4.4.2.

I was hoping that using Settings/System Update would get me to 5.0.2, but I receive an error message: Software download was unsuccessful.

I'd like to get the phone to 5.0.2 and root it. Can I use the LG flash tool to install VS98039A.kdz?

After that, what is the most reliable root method?

Thank you.

The most reliable method is to bring it into a Verizon store and ask them to flash it for you. The next most reliable method is to flash it yourself. The least reliable method is to wait for an OTA (over the air) update to be sent to the phone by Verizon.

I'm not a Verizon customer. I don't mind flashing it myself if I'm confident about the technique, which I'm not at the moment.

Di you know if I can flash VS98039A.kdz directly on top of 4.4.2 (using LG fLash tool and CSE flash)?
