Motorola Droid Mini - Text Suddenly Underlined

I have had my Mini for just over a week and last night, all of a sudden, all my text input in Messaging is being underlined in black. I thought at first that I had inadvertently changed a setting, but my wife who just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 has had the same thing happen.

Does anyone know if this is some sort of Android update? Can anyone recommend some way to turn it off?

That's odd. I've never heard of such a thing. Are you still experiencing this? If not what was the solution? Did you try a different keyboard?

Have you tried rebooting the device? Or maybe try going to Settings > Apps and clearing the Google Keyboard cache, or "force stop" the keyboard.
