Default Phone says successful activation, but isn't

After the OTA flash update hit, my rooted 2.2 phone starting acting up so I took it back to stock 2.01 via RSD Lite.

After having done this when I go through the activation it says that it has successfully programmed my phone, however it does not assign my phone number to my phone.

Tried multiple cache, data wipes all to no avail.

Anyone know a way around this?

after some more digging i found this article:

though the instructions weren't 100% accurate to the droid (you only have to put in your phone number in the 2 places it lists) this is pretty handy stuff for when the activation servers are having problems

    okay so update on this
the solution i posted worked, for awhile. Now oddly I have data access but cannot make any calls out. I have no access to a landline and cannot call in, to TS w/ tech support over the phone so unfortunately that is out.

it is pretty strange that it would do this, it is like the phone does not accept the programming coming in from verzion, guess i'm missing some of the settings it would need.
