Question on resetting/unrooting to return to stock and to sell

I've done extensive searches but could not find a definitive answer on this question.

I'm looking to sell my phone and want to reset it to basically factory settings (deactivated with none of my data in it).

SO far, I've reloaded the stock rom and recovery. If I unroot the device, can I do the factory data reset without bricking the phone? Or, is there another way to reset it without my data in it so that I can sell it with no problems?

The phones sell better if u advertise rooted and optimize. I would format system and data and put bumblebee or harmonia on it and sell it.
