Weird Charging behavior: Wall OK, USB on PC No Joy

A

AC Question

Just got Note 10.1 2014.
It charges fine from the provided wall charger or my Aukey external battery

BUT won't charge plugged into USB port on my laptop ??
When I plug it in to PC, it comes up with message "Connected as an Installer" ... nit sure if that's relevant.

When I check the connection "type" it's "Connected as a Media Device"
Battery doesn't charge regardless

Thanks
Steve

Welcome to Android Central! Computer USB ports give less current than wall outlets, so they might not provide enough juice to charge up the battery while you're actively using the device.

Also, have you tried any different USB cables?

Do you mean can I see the files on the Note with the laptop File Manager?
If so, YES ... I can read & write files

Thx for responding,

My laptop has 4 USB Ports. Only Wireless Mouseor even without mouse.. doesn't charge. I'd think with 4 ports, there should be enough juice but maybe not.

RE: Cables - I have tried the one that came with Note & the one that came with my Samsung S6 Edge

... & thanks for responding,

It doesn't matter how many ports the laptop has. Any USB port on a computer will provide significantly less charging current than a wall outlet.

Where do you see that "Connected as an Installer" message appear--on the phone or the computer?
