Terrible, terrible battery life on the Note 2.

Ok everyone, I'm quite tired researching this issue but I have found the problem and solution.

It's because of the high number of wake locks that's preventing the phone from going into deep sleep when at rest. That's whats draining out the battery so fast.
I also uninstalled the app lock app that was causing a high number of wake locks also. It seems that there is a bug in the OS that's preventing the phone from going into deep sleep mode in-order to conserve battery power.

The fix: Put the phone into airplane mode, reboot the phone, once it's booted up take it off airplane mode.
The results: AMAZING!!!

I ran a couple of tests to prove it.
At 4:00pm two days ago the phone was at 91% 3 hours later (No usage in between) 85%. For me that was a BIG difference. Before this type of reboot I was getting an average drop of roughly 6% per hour.
By doing this I was able to cut that down to a 2% drop per hour. Very nice indeed. The wake lock situation also looks much better as the PowerManagerService was able to kick in now.

Also I was even able to improve on that.
After I had enabled power-saving mode, at 5:00am the battery was at 63%. 10 hours later at 3:00pm, (Again no usage in-between), usually by now it would be dead but it was at 49%. That's 1.4% battery drain per hour. Much better.

I guess if it starts to drain fast again I'll just have to do that procedure again but at least I was able to find a fix and share it with you all. (I don't take credit for it:))
Hopefully this gets fixed in the next update.

Here's some screen shots showing the improvement after the reboot. Before I was getting 14h 33m on a full charge. Now it's 1 day, 7hours. That over twice an improvement in battery life. Yeah! I'm loving this phone now!

Let me know if this fixes your power drain issues too.

Thanks everyone for all your replies and suggestions. The android community is a very good one indeed!

I did the airplane mode trick and I have to say I have seen a vast improvement of my battery life as well. I do not know why or how it works but it does

It basically shuts off your phone and radio. You will save battery life but won't be able to receive any phone calls.

I meant turned airplane mode on, restarted phone, turned airplane mode off. Since I did that my battery life has improved. Maybe I wasn't clear in my post earlier.

Here's my best battery life with heavy use. Tons of Facebooking, lots of Internet browsing and a couple hours of streaming video.

Almost 52 hours! To be fair this was with my screen turned all the way down when indoors and I only turned on bluetooth/gps when I actually used it.

Guys. Is it normal to drain 1% per minute when all I do is read books in my kindle app. No data. But cell coverage is on.
I guess not because before, it takes about a day and a half to get down to 15% now, just a few hours of rrading, anfd I'm done.
I did the airport trick. But still the same.

A lot depends on screen brightness, etc. There is also power saving that has a lot of options.

I've set the brightness to the lowest, but still same. Is there an app where the coverage will stay on H+?? Coz I think thats the culprit.
Also. I went hiking yesterday. Took too many photos, data is on all the time, uploaded photos to instagram and my battery life seemed to stay as is. It lasted me noon to midnight with practically raping it by capturing too many photos... i find it wierd coz at home, i only use it for reading ebooks and txting..

I am going to be honest folks, it is not unusual to get days off the battery. Some times a low signal and heavy use may negate you to only 14-16 hours if you are zapping the juice almost constantly. 9.9/10 rate the battery life as stellar. If you are not seeing typical results like those posted, then get a new battery because this is one of those devices on the market that the "majority" are having great success with lasting a full day.

I have a 3.8V 6200mah extended battery and with t-mobile dc-hspa+ 42 connected, wifi on, bluetooth on, gps on, nfc on, audio streaming constantly, web browsing on cell and wifi throughout day, watching 720p video, playing taxing 3d games, screen set to maximum brightness always, pretty much no battery saver functions enabled at all and a 3 minute screen timeout with email updating every 10 min and skype messenger always running and some real time feeds updating. As an example Start the day at 8:00AM by 6:00PM when I get home I'll have between 68-64% battery remaining by midnight I'm around 45-50% depending how heavy I used it. If after this extremely heavily used day I forget to charge it and I take it to work with about 40% left on it I can still abuse it again a whole day at work and be at about 8-10%.

This is why you got to love the extended battery. You just cannot do what I just said with the 3100mah battery samsung provides.

But to original poster, Do you have to put the phone in airplane mode everytime you reboot your phone or just once? This would be awesome if I could get 3 days of battery abuse on my phone instead of 2.

Mine has been awesome.

No doubt the battery life is awesome. Look at this on my 3rd day. I still trying to figure out why Google MAPS is pulling battery because I haven't used it. :/

Having a battery widget is useless as the stock ui reads %. Try a task killer. I use one and my battery is great and screen is anyways #1 on battery use like it's supposed to be

Here's my first real pull. No power save on and this is pretty average usage. Also I'm in an LTE area so take that into consideration.

Hi all,
After an initial bad battery life, (because I had used it straight out of the box without charging, and let it discharge quite low into the red, thought that my battery was doomed). After allowing it to discharge till dead, and charging for more than 12 hours continuously over a period of a week I was able to improve on battery life, I got the best battery life on stock jelly bean, 6th day and 66%!. Now I don't discharge it to more than 40% to 50%, and I always disconnect the charger after a short while, of full charge. This charge cycle gives the best and most battery life.
While watching HD mkv 1080 format videos, battery discharges at the rate of 1% for every 10 minutes (and this is outdoors), and listening to music, I have everything tweaked in the equalizer including reverb and the works, drain is not noticeable. MX video player drains the battery faster than stock.
