I used the flygrip on my note 2, and got one for my note 3 as well. On my note 2, I got original flygrip which worked fine except that I could not use it as a stand in vertical mode. With the flygrip gravity, I can now use it in vertical mode. Besides that, the flygrip allows me easier one hand access, allowing me to touch every corner of the screen with one hand(yes, I know that there is the one handed mode, but that isn't as convenient for me. My only gripe would be that if you got a painted flygrip, then it is only painted from the top, so the sides don't look good. This isn't an issue if you get a solid color flygrip. I installed mine a little off center so I can view at two different angles when using it as a kickstand horizontally. The vertical mode works on flat surfaces but didn't work on carpet though it could partially be because I placed it off center. I put the foam pad because it feels easier to hold but it is not required.
