Do I need a samsung account / galaxy apps?

I love my note 3, but for the most part hate samsung software. I've disabled as much samsung apps as I could and only use a few spen apps (action memo, snote). However, reading an article today on androidcentral about the note ( 4 The first 5 things to do with your new Galaxy Note 4 | Android Central ) It said you should sign into your samsung account to get updates to samsungs "core" apps. I guess I'm wondering if I'm missing out? Or, more specifically, having never signed into samsung account what apps aren't getting updated on the note 3? I'd prefer to not have a samsung account but would also like the best s-pen experience possible. I checked out the galaxy apps store and I didn't see any apps I use such as watchOn or sfinder.

Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On my wife's Tab Pro 8.4, Hancom Office needs to be updated through the Galaxy Apps store--it's not available in Google Play.

yes!

Sammi has some fantastic apps, Here Map is miles ahead of google map, worth signing up (which is quite easy) just for that.

S pen should work fine without updating Galaxy apps. Watch on is found on both stores. There are some exclusives only found on Galaxy like here maps
