Nope. I believe in safe browsing and behavior as being the best protection. Mobile devices push the envelope of performance with these tiny processors so taxing them with the overhead of anti-virus software to account for my behavior is not desirable to me.

If all you use your device for is general browsing of mainstream websites (no porn), stick with applications from reliable sources (play store and you read through the reviews prior to installing), and practice safe email practice (don't open attachments that you weren't expecting without examining the context of the message) then you shouldn't need anti-virus software.

Though I agree completely with you, I still have Norton Mobile anti virus on my Note 4. Doesn't make sense to some, but it makes me feel better.

I use Lookout Premium since it's free with T-Mo's JUMP program. I have it set to scan apps that I download, a daily scan, and safe browsing and it doesn't seem too taxing on my battery.

Same here. Lookout has been good for me and its free with jump.

The question is if the anti-virus packages are worth theit weight. ...eapecially if you're not viewing pron, visiting malicious webseites, and only installing apps from the Play store.

I'm just a regular mobile consumer and I've never had any malicious content on any of my may devices. I once used Avast but realized it seemed completely unnecessary.

I have been using AVG antivirus on my note 4. Is it really necessary or is it another battery eater? What do you think?

Essential as far as I'm concerned. Malware attacks are increasing regularly in Android.

I don't believe in antivirus on mobile phone

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the viruses don't believe in attacking your phone. :) Check the article I cited above...

I don't usually find antiviruses help a lot on mobile, I just try to be careful with websites I'm visiting.

Malware attacks are increasing in frequency and becoming more and more sophisticated. For example, in the article I just cited above, it doesn't matter what website you visited, because the malware occurred from a program actually downloaded from Google Play.

My phone's performance is fine. AV programs don't cost much. Better safe than sorry. I see no downside to using an AV program.

I hate to use the analogy, but it's like listening to people say "I never backup and never had a problem." Then, one day they lose their hard drive "Oh, no, I lost 6 years of wedding and baby pictures...!"

Security is a process. The attacks are increasing in frequency. Most people have a casual attitude to phone security. I think increasingly we are going to find that is a BIG, BIG mistake. Because when the bad guys understand where the vulnerabilities are, that's where they attack. Phones today include saved credit cards, logins to critical apps, etc. It is potentially a serious issue.
