Samsung has now started rolling out the fix for the recent disastrous 4.3 update. Unlocked devices will get it first, the different carriers will roll out as soon as they can - let's hope this is the end of the problems.
I'll post again as soon as I have mine, I'm unlocked so it shouldn't be too long; will give you all my verdict.

Update received A OK - it's resolved all the issues I had, battery back to normal consumption, multi-window is back, lag has disappeared and phone wakes up quickly again. All in all, it's smooth & feels much faster - a joy to use again.
