That might be a stupid question, but i will ask it anyway....

I have cables that i used for my previous phones. Is it ok to use to charge on the computer ? I guess if the connector is the same that would work ?

No risk to damage the device?

I previously had a Samsung Infuse. I use the same cable and my S4 charges and connects just fine on my laptop.

I'm telling you my experience, I'm not telling you yours will work.

Sad that we have to CYOA these days.

It won't damage the device, but some cheap cables will charge slower than others. Also charging from a computer or desktop is slower than the outlet plug.

USB ports by design will only put out 0.5 amps, so it's going to charge very slowly even with a good cable.

c.f. 1 amp for most older phone chargers
2 amps for the S4 charger

Correct, not so much, and correct.
Cheap cables either work, or they won't at current this low.
The USB connection from your computer has 500 mA or 1/2 an amp. The plug in charger that came with your phone is 2000 mA or 2 amps. More oomph so speak, and will charge your device much faster. Both work just fine, it would time vs convenience.
