When trying to view the graphic in an MMS I now get a strange yellow box instead

This started happening right after I got a Samsung password and all kinds of stuff flooded my phone. (What's up with that?)

When I try to view an MMS, I get . When this first comes up it has a Download button instead of the progress bar that's shown. When I tap the Download button, the progress bar that shows in my example displays for a while and then the box goes back to displaying the Download button. No image is displayed, no message about where the downloaded file is, no nuthin'.

So:

1. What the heck has happened? Did a Samsung piece do this?
2. Where is my image? Did it download in secret, or did the download fail in secret?
3. Can I stop the daily flood of little Samsung pieces that's getting installed on my phone unbidden?
4. What do I need to do to get access back to my MMS images?

Fixed!

Boy, is this ever embarrassing.

What I did to get the MMS back was turn Data on in the extended settings shade.

Thanks to the VZW Troubleshooting Assistant for the suggestion.
