I'm trying to find a solution to this minor problem.

When I get into the car, I sometimes plug the S5 into my car stereo's aux input via a 3.5mm audio cable. I can play anything just fine(streaming music or MP3/FLAC/WAV files stored on the phone)

When I'm listening to the car stereo itself(CD, FM/AM, etc), I usually leave the phone plugged in. If I want to use Google Maps voice navigation, I'll have to physically disconnect the 3.5m audio cable if I want to hear the voice navigation on my phone. (again, this is when I'm only playing a CD on the car stereo)

Is there a way to get around this so that I don't have to plug/unplug in the aux input cable all the time?

Thanks!

If I'm reading this correctly, no, you can't play audio from both your phone and the car stereo at the same time. It's one source or the other, similar to choosing which video source to watch on your tv.
