Most cable providers have an app that allows you to control from your phone

That is what I have said for a long time now but there still is a crowd that demands them -- I have seen a few that demanded it in the past but said they're getting the S8 so .. :p.

And most respectable TVs now will either let you control them via Bluetooth or WiFi. I know I'm not 'most people', but I haven't missed the IR blaster on my devices in years. I have it on the Tab S, and if I've used it more than five times since I got it I'd be surprised.

I am broke. Are you going to donate a respectable tv to me?

I would! :D But my dear BF has me on a very strict 'OMG STOP BUYING TVs!' diet. I can only get away with a new phone every few months just because I'm on JOD! hahaha.

I do usually sell the old TV before I can buy a new one though, and have to wait for a good TV Sale or giveaway (last TV I got was because it came as a sing-in bonus with a credit card).

No IR but if you have a Samsung TV, you can connect the phone to the TV via Quick Connect over WiFi and use the phone as a remote... Love it!

That one only works on 2016 and newer models, unfortunately. For older models that supported Smart View you only get the BT remote option on some, no screen mirroring (TV to phone).
