Locked out of phone and won't allow access when gmail information entered correctly

I had my phone in my pocket and when it pocket swyped my password too many times it locked me out. I had this happen about a month and a half ago and I forgot my password so I changed it and it allowed me back in to my phone, but now it won't let me in. I am able to sign into my gmail account online, but my phone says my password/usename isn't correct when I type in my username password. I don't want to have to reset my whole phone, but I don't know how I can get it to unlock.

Yes, I have entered the correct username and password a minimum of 50 times, hoping by some odd luck it would register one of the times.

Have you tried changing your password online then trying it on your phone?

I have tried changing my password twice...I'm pretty sure I've hit all the basics.

Any other advice or is my best option to go to the store and get it set back to factory settings?
