I'm getting my phone on Sunday. If I'm wanting to root it in the near future should I avoid this update?
Nah.. Rooting process will remain the same. But if you want the included update you might want to hang and wait for it to get pushed then root the device afterwards.

If you're rooted: Flash the 'un-root' zip from Epic CM Team, from Stock run the Sprint OTA Update, then Flash the 'root' zip right back.......no big deal :)

*actually, this let's you DL the update...but to run it, you have to undo cwm using the undo-cwm tar from Epic CM Team immediately after flashing the above un-root zip; then you may run the update & re-root.
