Update problem

First off I'm not rooted everything is stock. About an hour ago I went to the software update and hit update. It started downloading and it hit 99% and then force closed.

I restarted my phone and upon loading my homescreens a message popped up and said communication failed, Unable to communicate with the ATT server.

Now when I go to software update and click either resume update or check for update it says "no firmware"

any help would be appreciated.

Update: So I went to the ATT store since it is so close to me to see if they could do anything.

As of 9/9/10 ATT stores no longer provide support for Android devices. They give you a number you have to call..The associates are not allowed to touch, troubleshoot, provide support, or advice on your android product.

This irritates the living hell out of me.

As an update I called the number they provided to me. I spoke with an "Android Specialist" and she was pretty nice. We went through multiple channels to get this issue resolved. Needless to say I had to wipe my phone which did not make me very happy.

The phone is back to working properly now and I was told by the lady to wait for a notification for the update and to not do anything until then.

For those of you who have ATT and ever need assistance you can't get elsewhere the new support number is 1-866-595-0132. Don't bother bringing your phone to the store for any sort of help because they can't and won't help you.

second reboot

usually a second reboot (after a reboot from a failed install) clears the no firmware message. but it would say that you have to wait 24 hrs before attempting to re-download.

That's what I would have thought. We did everything from rebooting to taking the battery out and letting it set for a few minutes.

Everytime the phone would be turned back on a splash screen would appear saying there was an error communicating with the ATT server.

This is why ATT needs "Android Specialists" this guy clearly didn't even know the sky was blue.

They only know what AT&T tells them. I don't remember hearing anything about this update today internally. Most of them are just there for a job and don't go as in depth as users like us do.

I can understand that but when a tech like this fails to do his job and actually check then I get a little irritated. He posted a link to the new update and then told me my phone is up to date? Brushing customers off with automated messages and incorrect information is bad business no matter how big of a company.

I have this same problem..."Communication Failed"...and I've done the date trick to keep trying to update. My phone now says over 600 hours to wait until I can perform the next update lol. I'm never going to get this thing

Ok, I am stock and late to the game but this update is supposed to speed up Media Scanning? I dont see a signifiacnt difference in it.

Does this update also fix the GPS issue? Sorry, again....late to the game.

I used the one-click root...
The update kept failing with "Communication Error" so I unrooted...however its still giving the same "Communication Error"

So what now? I cant ever get the OTA update? Are there other methods to get the update?

i had the same communication error but that's ok. i don't want this update if it doesn't fix the GPS issue and takes away the option to tether.
i don't use tethering now but i don't want to lose the ability. i've also never experienced media scanning issues so that doesn't bother me.
btw - i am not rooted either.

I'm getting the communication failed unable to communicate with the at&t server. I don't recall having a failed update and my Captivate is not rooted. I've rebooted too. The one thing I did do was the date forward trick once. That's when it seemed to start happening.
