Screen Lock

I am new to android phones and I am happy with my new HTC Sensation. I want to put a pin# on my phone so its secure, but I have to first unlock it with the bubble (sliding it up) and then put in my pin#. Is there a way to get rid of the first step, I don't think its normal to do both.

Also anyway to get rid of the auto complete on the browser?

go to the market and download nolock

That disables both locks. I want to be able to use a pattern or pin lock. Just dont want the HTC screen lock.
