Roaming but....not roaming? I'm confused.

I'm traveling down to west Virginia. Tmobile has no native coverage here at all (state capitol). I expected to roam on AT&T. And sure enough I am. Speeds throttled obviously. But under the about phone section, network info it says network is AT&T. But under roaming status it says "not roaming". Under network settings I have data roaming disabled. But I still get data. I don't have a roaming icon on the status bar either. So...am I roaming or not? I don't understand how I can be using AT&T network but not considered roaming.

Welcome to Android Central!

Technically you are roaming but since carriers do not charge for roaming in the states it won't say that you are roaming. You are on AT&Ts network it looks like so you are roaming on their towers but not being charged for it.

Well, after my trip was concluded I found out I could dial #932# to see data usage. Well, according to that whatever I used there DID count against my 200MB limit. So while I wasn't charged per se, it still counted towards my tight roaming cap. I'm just used to seeing a roaming icon while roaming. Its been a while but on my Sprint devices it would tell me when roaming. I wasn't charged just capped at 800MB (i think it was 800, as I said it was a while back). I'm wondering if this is a glitch because my phone should tell me when I'm roaming so I know to expect data to turn off after 200mb. Now, I knew I'd roam in WV. And planned accordingly. But your typical user ( say my wife) has no idea no native coverage exists there. As far as she would be concerned her phone would be working and connected just as always. And once the data would just stop she wouldn't have any idea why. The phone should tell me I'm roaming if it'll count against that tight roaming cap.
