Cannot disable text alerts during phone calls since Pie/9.0 update

I have an LG G6, Verizon network. I use Textra as my messaging app, and while running Android 8.0, using the options in Textra, I disabled text notifications while on a phone call. Worked fine.

Since upgrading to Android 9.0, I am unable to stop the "in call" notifications. I'll be on a call, get a text message, and hear the notification tone over the phone audio. No matter what i do, I cannot disable it. One peculiar thing is if I get a text from someone who I have set up with a unique text alert tone in textra, I don't get that unique tone, I get the default text notification tone, which leads me to wonder if these alerts are being generated by the stock message app.

The folks at textra are not aware of any bugs with 9.0, and tell me they have not been able to duplicate the issue. I have disabled every stock messaging notification option I can find, but no luck. One peculiar thing is if I go into app notififications for the stock messaging app, I cannot disable notifications. They show enabled, and, greyed out to where I can't make a change.

Needless to say, I'm at a loss. Has 9.0 removed the ability to disable alerts during phone calls? Or is it a phone-specific issue?

Definitely open to any ideas or suggestions.

Sadly, I'm having the opposite issue. I can't seem to make the in-call text notifications work since Android 9.0. I have a Samsung S10+ I've made sure in call notifications are enabled in the phone app as well as the Verizon messages app. I also went to notifications and made sure nothing was on silent, then went to volume and made sure the notification volume is on and up, then over to Do Not Disturb and made sure nothing was on in there and then made sure the notifications or apps weren't being optimized by my battery. I'm at a total loss. I've tried google messages, the native messaging app, and Verizon messages and yet nothing works. I've even done a master reset. I'm at a total loss. I'm truly sorry you're having the opposite issue. I'll be following this thread just in case a solution is found.

Sure, I saw that Forum and started to post it there, but upon searching this post in LG was the only mention anywhere of a similar issue. According to Verizon and Samsung, it's a known Android 9 issue. I was on their forums last night. I would, however, be grateful for any help or workarounds so feel free to have it moved. Thank you.

Yes, I have, thank you for suggesting that though. I've found several others are having the same issues on different forums but no resolution yet. I've tried safe mode, master reset, only having system apps on the device, notification sound under volume, all app notifications, turned off battery optimization, turned off do not disturb, made sure notifications in calls are not on silent and turned on in both the phone app and the messaging app, made sure all audio files and file paths are correct. I've talked to Samsung & Verizon and honestly, they've both said I've found more areas to check than either of them knew existed. lol. I'm a tech support specialist and I work from home. I do my best to try everything before I post. Hopefully, someone else has found a resolution. Thanks so much for the follow-up, I'm willing to try any other suggestions you may have.

Rest app preference and reset settings
You can go into settings and at the top type reset those 2 options will appear and let me Know if that works for you.

Unfortunately, those were the first two things I tried after uninstall and reinstalling the messaging app. I've also done a master reset twice, I'm at a standstill.

Yes, I've tried digital well being as well. I'm using Messages + (Verizon's app), it also is an issue on the native Samsung messaging app and google messages as well. I do mobile tech support for a living which is why I've tried everything, lol. After doing a lot of research I've found no solutions, BUT I have noticed many people are having the same issue with different branded phones. The only thing I've noticed so far is that they all seem to be on Android 9.0 (Pie).

I don't get any notifications during a call at all. The only apps I have enabled for sound notifications are my messaging app and Fb messenger. I don't get notifications for either while on a call.

And I'm assuming no bluetooth or headphones your using just the phone itself?

That's correct, no Bluetooth or headset. I used to leave my Bluetooth on because I pair it to a speaker at night, but I have been keeping it off in order to make sure the Bluetooth wasn't the issue.

Another question , when you did the factory resets you started from clean install or back up?

That's a good question, I did the master reset and then after it reset I reinstalled all the apps from a backup.
Its possible something could of gone wrong with the backup, I know it's a pain to do a 3rd time but are you willing to try without back up and install fresh to see ?

I'm debating it. It is a pain, but if it worked at least it would be a solution. I haven't done a clean install of apps in a long time,
