Android Central Question

I have a Galaxy A8 with android 8 firmware. Suddenly, ****ty samsung has released a update that is android 9 and I dismissed it. This morning I woke up and found that the phone has downloaded the firmware and is waiting for my response to install now, install overnight or postpone. I postponed it. My software update setting is set to manually search and update over wifi. It updated over the 4G network and yes chewed my data.
Samsung says you must update and they cannot remove it. I know from previous galaxy phones experience that I had was everytime you update to the new version UI, it alsways has issues and samsung is too slow to fix and I'm not interested in being a guinea pig feedback mechanism on updates.

My question is, I have not updated the new firmware yet, it's only downloaded but no installed, will a hard factory reset remove the downloaded update and still retain android 8?

I know eventually again software update will appear and I have to dismiss.
Will rooting the phone also stop software update notifications?
