Enjoy the carnage porn. Mine was in my back pocket last night when I dropped my pants in the bathroom. Crack.

LG says it'll cost between $40-$100 to repair. I'm going to wait for parts to hit the market and see if I can fix it myself.

I like how the back of that surface matches the back of your phone.

I ordered a full body wrap skin for mine plus a temporary case for it until I can get the bumpers for it. I am hoping to be as proactive as possible so I can keep it in perfect shape. The wrap on the back should keep it from scratching. I don't want to cover it up, but I think we need to do something to keep it from sliding and scratcbing.

I managed to drop my Nexus 4 (from waist height) after having it for only 3 days. Like some others in this thread it landed on it's top corner and now the touchscreen doesn't work. Sent it into LG said it would be $40 - $100 to repair. After 2 weeks of shipping, having them lose it for a few days at the warehouse, and finally testing it, I received an email with a tracking number saying they were sending it back! I was really happy assuming that they were sending it back fixed with no cost to me! I was wrong. Received it yesterday with the screen still broken and a note saying it is "Un-repairable". I called them just a few minutes ago and they said there is nothing they can do to help me. LG has some of the worst customer support I have ever dealt with. It is also past the return date with Google, so they can't help me either. Best I can do is sell it for scrap.

TLDR: DONT DROP YOUR NEXUS 4

Why is that bad customer service? You dropped it and it's broken. It sucks but it's not LG's fault. They tried to fix it.

I want an Otterbox.

Mr too. Been checking out the Otterbox site since before I placed my order. Looks like the phone will come first so I got a KaysCase Soft Gel cover from Amazon (got it free!). When the Commuter.case shows up on the Otterbox site I'll trot on over to Amazon.com and get it for less.

Don't let the paranoia dig in. Yes phones break, and you'll hear horror stories about how fragile this phone is, just like we did with the iPhone 4 and 4s. Keep in mind, however, that Consumer Reports found that only 15% of their respondents reported getting a new phone because the old one broke. Even assuming some users would keep using a phone with a cracked yet functional screen (or back), that's a pretty low number. You hear about cracked screens and the like because it's sensational, not because it's common.

Let's take a look at those reports again in a year!

I'm not even sure you need an Otter box. A reasonably good case will protect you from basic mishaps. It's the dropping off apartment buildings etc that a otter box helps. :D But they are so ugly.

Well, I hate to admit this but I dropped my Nexus 4 as I was unpacking it, however it did not sustain any damage as far as I can tell.

I got the package from UPS, opened it, and removed the N4 box. I set it down on the counter in my kitchen, and apparently wasn't paying attention (which is unusual because I am always very cautious when it comes to new electronics), as it fell off the counter and hit the floor. I FREAKED out, but fortunately, the fact that it was still in the box seemed to save it. There wasn't even really much of a mark on the box, and there was no visible damage to the phone. I booted it up and it has been running find the last few days (except for an unrelated data speed issue) I can't imagine those hard cardboard boxes providing much protection, but it seemed to save the day.

I suppose I got lucky, and I know this sounds awfully weird and paranoid, but I tend to be somewhat obsessive with things like this, and I still keep thinking about that moment I dropped the phone. Even though it works fine I still can't help but feel as though I ruined the moment at best, and at worst there's still something waiting to go wrong. Silly, I know, but I'm sure I will get over it. I absolutely love this phone though, and am excited to finally have an Android device!

So this is at least one story of a dropped N4 that didn't result in total disaster.

Why in gods name do people put their phone in the back pocket? I never understood that. Stupidest spot in the world. Its like putting it in your shoe!

it's because some phones can handle a little more pressure on the front and back faces. I got my N4 Friday and finally had time to open and play with it today...

I really like the design... clean, thin and feels good in hand. but... even though it feels relatively solid or well built, if i had to compare it to my iphone 4s, i say the 4/4s feels very solid and will say it will take pressure to the front or back glass better than the N4. I think it will take a fall better on it's side too because of the aluminum frame.

you can't beat the aluminum along the perimeter that basically acts like an exoskeleton... and the front and rear glass feels more dense and thicker... the N4 back glass has a wafer thin feel and think it's gonna shatter if you press it too hard or if it takes even a light hit.

if it's anything like the optimus g then i am really concerned cause a buddy bought one the day he found out I ordered my N4 and in the two weeks I've had to wait for my phone, he's gone through TWO Gs... his kid dropped the first one from two feet killing the phone and he dropped his replacement the other day shattering the back glass on his optimus g. I use the 4s without case but i will definitely be using a case with my N4

If companies say that new glass is stronger than the previous therefore they can make 1/2 thinner... I wish they use the new glass and the previous thickness and make it 2x stronger... cause usually the older phones werent that strong to begin with and i'd take a little thickness to have a more bulletproof phone

Its because some phones can handle a little more pressure? Why would you want to put a little more pressure? That makes absolutely no sense.

they should be designed to withstand daily type handling and usage and certain type scenarios should be considered like back pocket wear at times. i dont carry mine that way but i have a couple of times for whatever reason. as smartphones become the norm like dumb phones were and often mistreated, they shouldnt be that fragile really. I'm just saying I find the 4/4s much more solid in that type of scenario.
