I am not going to even describe my current frustration right now as I am sure you already know.
Last night I went to bed, with my normal routine I plugged my N4 in for charge while sleeping. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened recently (did not drop it, no water damage, did not act wierd, etc). This morning when I woke up (to the alarm on my wife's phone). I could not get my N4 to turn on for the life of me. I have another fully charged battery that I tried with no success. I have tried soft reset and this has not worked. When I plug it in to the charger, nothing comes up, no lights, nothing. Does this need to be sent in to be fixed? Anyone have any solutions? Thank you for any advice.

ps. as i write this the only thing out of the ordinary I can think of is the fact that as I was going to sleep last night I kept hearing the phone chirping as if the charger was being unplugged and re plugged in... I remember checking it out then and not finding anything abnormal other than that. Also if this helps, my phone was warm this morning when I woke up.

Could be that your phone overheated when charging last night.

Take the battery out and see if it is damaged by heat at all. Swelling and the like. Also check the interior of the phone for damage from an expanding battery.

I used to have a S4 mini that would turn itself off when it got too hot and I could not turn it back on until it cooled down.

Good luck.

Try booting it in recovery mode and restarting it from that menu. That's what I have to do with my original Nexus 7 once in a while.

By soft reset, do you mean you've tried holding the power button for 20+ seconds?
The charge sound repeating could be an indication your charger is going/gone bad or you've got a short in the cable or something wrong in the phone itself.
If you have access to a usb port on a computer I've read charging the phone for a bit using it often alleviates the problem you've got with it not powering on.
Hope that helps

I would return the phone back to the carrier and explain to them what happened. If you are past your 14 days get a replacement. If you're under warranty get a replacement less hassel.

Yes soft reset I took battery out and held the power button for about a minute. I have not been able to get the phone to boot up on safe mode or recovery mode. I have an extra battery which I know is fully charged and this isn't working either. :(

Been fussing around all day so far with no good news to report. I have noticed that when I put a battery back into the phone, despite it not turning on the phone will still get very warm and then cool again when I take the battery back out. I am assuming this is a hardware issue?

Please examine your USB port for damage or foreign object causing a short, and blow it out with compressed air. My Note 2 died similarly from a damaged port, even a charged battery wouldn't allow it to start up.

Will continue to work on this. Meanwhile I am noticing that my external battery charger is not able to fully charge the battery although I could just not be waiting long enough. Does anyone know how the Samsung factory warranty will treat me here? Have had te phone for 6 months

Update: took the phone to the sprint store with a tech repair shop and they said the phone was completely dead but not sure why. Although they did rule out water damage. They think maybe it over heated and something internal was fried but te batteries looked okay. So.... I will have to go through Samsung and get a new phone.
It has been a fun little experiment but once Samsung sends me a new phone I will probably sell it and go back to iPhone. This experience has led me to believe that samsung just isn't up to par and not reliable enough for me (yes one case of dropping the ball does it for me). I have come to realize a whole new respect for apple as now I have reverted back to my 4 year old iPhone 4S as a temporary replacement and is as reliable as ever... Despite having been used strictly for watching porn the last 6 months. Apparently that is still good enough to be more reliable than the "state of the art" machines samsung has to offer...

Well if you've had that experience then that's understandable.

I have had issues with my S4, S4 mini and S5 in recent years but have stuck with Samsung. On a Note4 now and it is perfect. The big screen helps with porn also.
