How to change backup password for unlock screen

Hi all,

Just got a new Samsung Galaxy S6 phone. I have set the fingerprint and backup password to unlock the screen. Please advise how to change the backup password?

I have searched a while on Internet. The solution found couldn't help me. The screen of their pages look different.

The screen of my phone
------------------------------
Apps -> Settings -> Lock screen and security

Lock screen
-> Screen lock type
(Fingerprints)
Place your fingertip on the Home
......
Backup password

Security
-> Fingerprints
Place your fingertip on the Home
......
Backup password

I couldn't find "Change Password"

Please help

Regards

Re: How to change backup password for unlock screen

I had a simular problem with the backup password after installing an app I believe.

(The first section is for rooted phones only)
I have a rooted GS6 and I had to use a shared preference editor called "Cheat Droid", you can get it for free or use any other shared preference editor.

1) Open Cheat Droid and find "Fingerprint" (com.samsung.android.framework.service)
2) Open "Fingerprint" and select the very first .XML file (service_preferences.xml)
3) Set "pref_attempt_fingerprint_count" and "pref_attempt_backup_count" to "0"
4) Restart phone

------------------

This may work but I'm not sure (Does NOT require root)
I believe this is only for when you try and sign in using fingerprint on things like Paypal and built in internet. (I may be wrong, its worth a shot =))

1) Goto Settings - Applications - Application Manager
2) Select Fingerprint Passport and then click "FORCE STOP"
3) Select "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache"
4) Restart phone

Can't you go into settings > lock screen and security > fingerprints and click on "change backup password"?

Hi,

I couldn't find "change backup password" on my phone, Galaxy S6. It is very strange to me. Before posting I have been googling a while. The threads found by me also suggested me to click "change backup password".

On my phone;
Settings -> lock screen and security > fingerprints
It shows 2 options;
1)
place your fingerprint on the Home to verify your identity.
2)
Backup Password

Clicking "Backup Password". It requires to keyin password.

I did nothing but clicked [x] to close the popup window.

Could Samsung change the screen display on each production lot?

When that comes up you have to place your finger on the home button x.x the phone needs to verify you are the owner before allowing you to add fingerprints or change backup password

Hi,

It is very strange to me.

Tried
-> lock screen and security > fingerprints
It shows 2 options;
1)
place your fingerprint on the Home to verify your identity.
2)
Backup Password

1)
Couldn't work.
2)
click Backup Password and key-in password

It popup 5 items
+ Fingerprint 1
add finger print
change password
web sign-in
Verify Samsung account

Click "change password"
key-in new password (6 digits - 2 number+4 characters)

->continue
confirm backup password

backup password changed

done then it turned back to the first screen before hitting "lock screen and security".

Turned off the phone. Started the phone again.

Now I couldn't login with neither the new password nor the old password, always saying incorrect password.

Please help. Thanks

Edit:
Finally I have to reset my phone erasing all data. Fortunately this is a new phone not much data imputed. I think I won't use fingerprint again.
