How to clear browser cache

[Android Central Question]

I am trying to clear the browser cache on a Samsung chromebox series 3.
What I did so far (without success):

1. Tapped the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen -> “More Tools” -> “Clear browsing data”.
Checked the boxes next to Browsing History, Cookies, and Cached Images and Files.
Clicked Clear Data.
That didn't help (when I start typing an URL the "suggestions" still pop up).

2. Reset Google Chrome
Didn't help either.

3. Turned off the sync in Chrome and repeated steps 1 and 2.
Even now Chrome is still showing the "suggestions" when I start typing an URL.

Welcome to Android Central! Suggestions wouldn't be the same as prior searches from your browser history. The ones you see with a little clock icon refer to prior searches you made, so those would be cleared out if you cleared your browsing history "from the beginning of time."

I can't find a way to completely turn off URL suggestions on Chrome OS, sorry.
