I am very much hoping that this works for me too. My upgrade is on 7/1 which is less than two months after the EVO LTE comes out so I'm feeling pretty hopeful about being able to get it at release time. My GS1 Epic is feeling pretty tired nowadays.

Now if I could only get better than 250kb speeds on 3G I'd be *really* happy but I'm on wireless most of the time anyway and DC is in the first round of upgrades :)

My locality to Sprint initiated about 5 years ago when they reduced a bill that was my fault from $1500 to $100 with a "retroactive plan upgrade ". However, that loyalty only goes so far with such a shallow selection of phones.

I have emailed and called Sprint and offered up what I believe to be a somewhat reasonable argument about me being an early adopter of the original evo 4g and being subjected to a 10 dollar premium fee while never getting 4g in my area until recently, and even now i still can only get it in certain areas of my town, and now they're switching to lte, thereby rendering my current phone useless when it comes to 4g. I am willing to give you another 2 years of loyal service (have been with sprint for 5+ years) ...etc etc etc... they're not buying it. they're saying i must pay a upgrade buy out no ifs ands or buts about it. so i'm pretty much screwed in that sense at this point, right? there's no going back from that i would assume. my account is probably noted. UGH

The only option would be to threaten to leave and have to deal with retentions . But this is the nuclear option. If they don't bite, then you're on the hook to leave, or that would definitely be noted on your account.

You have to remember Wimax, as a whole, was a failure for Sprint. If they gave what you're asking for to everyone who had/has 4G phones but don't have Wimax locally, they would be in a boatload of trouble.

That's why I tried adding in the loyal customer and early adopter stuff as well. I'm of the thought that the actual number of people thinking to do that in order to get an upgrade and then actually going through with it is pretty small.

At this point, I doubt I'll be giving them another call, I certainly don't want to be in their doghouse. I might just settle for the buyout and hope i can get what i need out of my current device (E4GT).

Being addicted to cell phones is exhausting.

BTW longtime lurker, 2nd time poster :)

Well welcome to the forums. I feel your pain, but at least Sprint has the early upgrade. I am glad to pay $40+ to get my upgrade so that I can pre-order on Monday. I am so ready for this phone and you g back to Android. Tired of the limitations of the iPhone. And since I have my iPhone sold, the Htc Evo 4g LTE will not cost anything when it's all done.

Now as soon as there is a release date, I will be ordering a 64 micro sd card and as soon as a good case comes out ( come on Ballistic, come out with the HC case or otter Defender ) I will be all set. :D

I know many have their gripes with Sprint, and some feel that they are not a contender against Verizon and AT&T, but what they just did for me is remarkable.

This is coming from someone who had the original EVO, to the EVO3D, to the iPhone, and now going back to the EVO 4G LTE come next month! I have been with them for over 12 years. They waived my upgrade eligibility with no additional costs and I am now able to get the new EVO next month.

Being that I never call in, pay my bill on time, the lady was so professional, and I asked about the early upgrade program from visiting this forum, and she said, "I can do that for you right now at no cost. You never call in and complain and we thank you for that." Her words.

So I am coming back to Android. The only reason I left in the first place was due to theft of my iPod Touch at work and my job gave me a 500 dollar voucher to replace it. So I tried the iPhone. No complaints. Very effective and reliable phone. But my Android had me spoiled. Hence reactivating my EVO 3D and patiently waiting on the new member to my family. The iPhone is now a iPod.

Good job Sprint! Making great strides without forgetting those who stuck with you through good and bad.

Was this done via chat? or over the phone?

I would have loved to never call in to complain, but considering the replacement phone they gave me was completely broken (my original had a flaky power button, the replacement had a completely defective touch screen), then the replacement they mailed me was an EVO 4G instead of the 3D I had...

But hey, they gave me a little credit and that's ok I guess. Just wish they were better about things like this.

Via chat.....

Hate to say it, but i think this all might be b.s. Not only does it sound way too good to be true, but online chat cannot do this. Why? Because it involves a change to your plan (extending your contract) which can't be done in a chat session.

Changes like this need to be done over the phone or in person.

Sorry Mike, or whoever you are. I am no frequent poster on here nor do I have the desire to post or start topics. But I sat back and watched all the excitedness over the new EVO and happened to come check out the forums. Saw in one forum where they were saying there was an early buyout upgrade system in place that I did not even know of. I don't ever call into Sprint, especially since you swap phones via internet as well through there site. I chatted in just to inquire about it and was willing to pay. I asked the lady (Sheila M.) the question and she took care of the rest, free of charge. I did not once say that they are doing this for everyone or this was a common practice. I said, "this is why I love Sprint". I would attach the chat records on here, but upon second thought, why bother. At the end of the say, I am getting the EVO 4G LTE come May, and that is all that matters sir. Not your Sherlock Holmes/Inspector Gadget feeling of calling my post BS. #InternetThug Best of luck to you.

Well, I just called *2 Customer Service and she said it was a Telesales decision and the Telesales person said they do an early upgrade on the 18th of every month for customers whose upgrade is the following month. But since my upgrade isn't until June 1, I would have to pay the full price on Monday in order to pre-order. I have also been a Sprint customer for over 10 years and have 4 devices on the account.

Regardless, I love Sprint too and can't wait to get my hands on this phone!

Sheila M. > Dave S.

I guess maybe who you get can have different levels of authority? Maybe the guy I got didn't know how to do it and instead of saying that just said it couldn't be done online?

Oh well, I'm asking for Sheila S. Next time. ;-)

It looks like the difference in our chats are maybe the category? And the person gets it based of that? I am not sure. You selected 'Equipment' and I selected 'General Inquiry'.
I hope it works out for you and I hope as many people can get the EVO come next month, especially with all this hype behind the vintage iPhone 3S redesign by Samsung, sorry, I mean the SGIII. Lol.....
