Is it worth it?

Currently using the LG G4, but considering the Nexus 5x. My two main needs are battery life and camera... Is it worth trading the G4 for the 5x?

As happy as I am with my 5X, I'm going to guess no because the G4 is better spec'd than the 5x in RAM, screen res, camera (has OIS), front facing camera, expandable storage, and battery capacity. They run on the same processor too.

I know the G4 has "better" specs, but I would take the 5X over the G4 any day. LG has the worst of the Android skins for one, and I love that the Nexus is completely unlocked.

Oh. Didn't know LG skin was so bad. It is actually worse than Samsung?

Have to agree that you can't beat vanilla Android...once you've had it it is really hard to use anything else!

My lg g4 was far from smooth operating. It would crash and stutter. Camara is better but I'd take stock Android now over it having used the 5x for a little while now.

I have a lag and experience it every day, multiple times a day, mostly when the phone comes out of sleep . It could be that some apps are not optimized yet... even though I do experience the lag right in Google Apps... or could be that Marshmallow was not completely dialed in yet and they had to get it out because of the time of year it was when Google had their presentation. Not sure exactly, but it could even be therefore choice of lower RAM. As much as people say that's not the case, let's be honest here, it probably is.

Ultimately, most people are experiencing a lag and the camera app is horrendous. In reality, the user experience should be the greatest with a Google branded phone right from Google because they put their stamp of approval on it.

This is starting out to be a disappointment, however I'm hoping they get things dialed in here sooner than later and turn it around with some firmware updates.

I think on the whole 6.0 is ready for prime time.

If you test in Safe Mode, you might have a better reference point for how the OS--by itself--works...laggy or not. While I too would have liked 3GB of RAM for future-proofing, for my own purposes I have found that 2GB of RAM has worked just fine. I hope I can say that next year and possibly the year after that....

I agree, the camera app is slow to focus and one cannot take multiple photos quickly. I think that these failings can be addressed with software updates, and I hope Google is hard at work to give us a better experience.

Not sure how you can assert that? The people posting here are but a tiny fraction of owners. I don't experience lag with my 5X, but then again I'm not trying to use it like my desktop PC with 20 programs running and 15 browser tabs open either.

I had both and greatly prefer the 5x mainly due to the stock android. But the camera is very comparable as well. 5x battery is better. Fingerprint scanner is another plus. So yes, well worth it.

My two main needs are battery life and camera...

Battery life is mediocre. On standby, Doze really makes an enormous difference and the 5x only loses 1-2% per hour (which is fabulous for an Android phone). In use (Screen-On) it gobbles up battery like I've never seen 20-30% per hour just web surfing, checking Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Camera is good but the camera app is just ok.

In sum, I love my 5x but the battery drain in use is a real issue and spoils an otherwise fabulous phone.

What is your projected SoT? While I've never used it that heavily or for more than about 3 hours SoT, IIRC the projection for my 5X is approx 5-6 hours--similar to the Moto X Pure Edition I think. That is based on those times when I've haf time to use my phone for about an hour or two straight...

Do you use adaptive brightness? I used to but don't anymore. My screen setting is usually set to about 20-30% brightness and I leave it there....

Projected SOT averages 3.5-5 hours, depending on use.

I do use adaptive brightness but I'll give it a shot without it and cross my fingers it makes a considerable difference. Thanks! 5-6 hours SOT would be awesome!

I'm having the same mediocre experience with battery of 3 to just under 4 hours SOT- light notifications turned off, no google cards, turned off vibration on type, and on wifi at home.

I will try turning off adaptive brightness but I usually have the screen fairly dim anyways and will try to turn off location services and only turn it on manually when I need an app that uses it.

I bought mine on black Friday with that $80 price drop so let's keep that in mind. I bought the 32gb mint one. It's a good phone, I went from a g3 to this. Battery life is OK if you're not a heavy user. I can make it through a work day then I'll put it on the charger when I get home at around 40%. One of the things I wish it had was an ir blaster, and better camera modes. I wouldn't switch from a g4 to the 5x since you'll be getting 6.0 soon and the removable battery and extra storage are added plusses. This phone does get laggy sometimes and snapchat crashes on me or apps are really slow to open sometimes and I have to reboot my phone to fix this problem. If you are going to buy a nexus I'd get the 6p but that's my opinion. Full price this phone isn't worth the money when there are others in its price range that have better specs. Just my 2 cents.

I have an s6 edge right now and am really thinking about getting the 5x. How are you liking the switch? How's the overall phone experience compared to the s6 e?
