Is TMobile's $30 4G plan gone?

I was told a lot of things (most of which turned out to be false) by various Tmobile representatives, both at stores and in the technical support, and also by walmart salespeople, including one claiming to be a tmo sales rep.

That's why I record these kinds of calls. Once my cable company claimed that they couldn't find a recording of their call where a rep offered me a discount. "No problem," I said. "I recorded it, too." Then they tried to play hardball and say that's illegal to record calls without the other party's consent. I countered that by explaining that I live in a state that requires only one party's consent.

Wow, I am so thrilled for you oberkc.

I was just talking to an Executive Relations Lisa Gonzales as well. I was not advised of the $30 plan when I was looking to sign for T-Mobile in one of their stores. I would get that, especially when the area I live in is barely covered by 2G; we are on the edge, so I use our home wireless connection.
I found about the $30 plan only thanks to this forum. Did I say thank you all enough?

I don't work and this is a big issue to me. She promised to get the issue I was put in resolved. I missed one of her calls back and wasn't able to get her to email me back or to call me back. So I complained about her to some executive emails found on the internet.
She said today it might take days for the issue to be resolved. The T-Mobile staff surely gives their customers runaround if the T-Mobile screws up something. Never been with T-Mobile before, never had a prepaid plan before? I am learning a lot last 2 weeks, especially about the complaints from unhappy T-Mobile customers. I will NEVER get a postpaid plan with them, seems like a nightmare to get out of it.

If Lisa won't solve the problem, my hubby will get a new account with them. I am not willing to pay $60/moth for a prepaid plan that doesn't even cover my house or the area I move around. I can adjust $30 for cell calls and text with occasional data usage. I was offered by all of the T-Mobile staff to go daily, are they that stupid or do they think I am so stupid that I will end up paying $90/month with that nonsense? Or a $30 plan with only 30 MB of data. That doesn?t even cover one of my trips using internet maps! This plan is a huge waste of money, not speaking of limitation on the calls and text.

Yep, I record lately all their "lies and promises", even today's call with Lisa. I didn't tell them yet while I don't have to; based on Indiana law. One party has to know, which is me :)
I make print screen on everything I think can be a proof for what is offered as well... All the word files and images are dated... I save email messages, which I assume all of us do. Just to warn you, T-Mobile executive staff will alter your time of your email, if they are pointed out they didn't respond to your email. I have a proof of it as well; happened to me few days ago.

Not really, check their web site as Jaysus mentioned. It states to purchase a T-Mobile Starter Kit for an unlocked cell phone to activate the new customer prepaid plan. Walmart is not listed in there at all.

It is still on the T-Mobile website at the above link

Like Jaysus said, the $30 plan is still listed on the tmo website. Just not prominently.

Ok, go to that link and find it. Then, take a screenshot of it and post it here.

ProTip: It's not there anymore.

The $30 hundred minute plan is only available online or from Walmart. (officially)

Yep... pretty much.

Why would T-Mobile point someone at Walmart when you can activate it on T-Mobile's website?
But point being the $30 hundred minute plan is/was not (officially) available in T-Mobile stores.

I just activated my daughter's unlocked iPhone 4 yesterday with a new sim from T-Mobile with $30, 100/Unlimited/Unlimited plan online with no issue. Even transfered her number in about 10 minutes total.

Our family is finally entering the brave not-so-new world of smartphones with the purchase of a Nexus4 from Google Play for DD, 16, and we signed up w. the 30$ T-mobile plan last nt. Please bear w. me if I get some of the nomenclature incorrect as....I am new to this.
Bought the N4 thru GooglePlay on Sunday, arrived Wed (So CA). Was told by T mobile online that the 30$ plan was only available thru Walmart. The sim activation kit sold by WM is not the micro-sim so we bought it from Tmobile online. That was Mon a.m., today is Thurs and it's not here yet. It was 10$, free shipping. Bought the 30$ card from Walmart online, no sales tax was charged, the PIN arrived within an hour or so. We ended up buying a micro-sim card from local T mobile store for 10$ so we could activate right away.
Activation was a wee bit tricky. DH was in charge of that and he had to navigate around a few different Tmobile depts bf getting the right one. The main issue seemed to be that the Tmobile store hadn't given him an activation code? so the CS rep wanted him to go back to the store for it and he sd no, thank you, so she got a supervisor to issue a code. Then he gave her the PIN number from Walmart and we were good to go. We transferred DD's Verizon number over, and the phone worked right away but it took a couple of hours for the number to be ported over. At that time VZW sent me an email saying her ph# with them had been suspended. She has a Google Voice number which fwds to this phone and she is able to get txts and calls when either number is called/txt'd.
When you buy a 30$ card from Walmart, there is a phone number to call. It's only to top up the account, not for activation. DH did not try to activate the acct online, got that bit of run-around on the phone to T mobile but got it done and so far, so good.
She installed Vonage on her phone so she can use that to make phone calls. The quality isn't bad, a bit of a lag, and it doesn't use up her minutes (we checked balance). Got that advice off of this forum.

I am not so sure I see a question here, but I think you were just sharing your experience. It sounds like everything worked out and I think you will really enjoy your new phone, and BTW congrats! I am sure that you will save a bundle if you are coming from Verizon. It is unfortunate that it can be so complicated getting set up, but since T mobile is the only no contract carrier out of the 4 majors, I think the whole process is relatively new and a "work in progress." Hopefully the no contract model will catch on and as the option matures everything should be a bit more straight forward.

yup i was just sharing my experience, no question. as i learn more i'll know what to ask :-D.
we've had cellphones since the early 90s...needed for our line of work. seen all the little carriers swallowed up...i think we had airtouch? LA cellular? eventually got into a family plan that runs about 80$ plus taxes for 3 lines, 700 minutes, no txt/data at vzw. DH's contract runs out in about a yr (got a new phone so it renewed), mine end of the yr, but DD was on month to month so she is the "Mikey" (from the cereal ad) making the first foray into smartphones and prepaid contracts. The 30$ plan is a nice way to go.

I just visited the T-Mobile store today. I asked about the $30 plan and the guy didn't know what I was talking about. I ended up going with the $50 500 Mb plan, figuring I could change it later. I remembered seeing the $30 online, so when I got home I looked it up and sure enough its there. I chatted with a T-mobile rep online:

T-Mobile: We have received your information and will connect you with a T-Mobile Chat Specialist soon.
Juliaana M: Hi there Jason. I will do my best to help you out with your concern. Are you trying to switch your rate plan?
You: yes.
Juliaana M: Okay. May I please have the 4 digit PIN on your account?
You: XXXX
Juliaana M: Thanks. You're trying to change your rate plan right? What rate plan would you like to have?
You: $30: 100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5GB at up to 4G speeds
You: shown here: Prepaid Cell Phone Plans, No Annual Contract | Monthly 4G | T-Mobile
Juliaana M: Okay. One moment please.
You: no problem
Juliaana M: Thank you.
Juliaana M: Thank you for patiently waiting Jason. As I checked here, your rate plan is a Pay By the Month rate plan. We have specific requirements for you to have the rate plan that you want whic is the $30 monthly with Unlimited and Text (5GB up to 4G). The kit should be purchased in Walmart for you to have this rate plan.
You: So it can only be purchased at Walmart, not through the Tmobile store or online?
Juliaana M: That's correct Jason.
You: If I do this, will I still be a Tmobile customer?
Juliaana M: Yes Jason. Even if you purchased the kit in Walmart, you are still considered as T-Mobile customer.
You: And I can pay my bill through tmobile.com? and use this help service?
Juliaana M: Yes.
You: Is my bandwidth handled differently? In other words is the 4G that I have now as fast as the 4G I'd have through Walmart?
Juliaana M: Yes.

In the end, I couldn't get a refund on my SIM card or my first payment. So, after this month I'll be heading to Walmart. Has anyone had success getting T-mobile to switch them to the $30 plan over the phone? I'm kind of bummed out and a little confused.

Using an unlocked gsm phone? Should have just ordered the sim online and when you receive it, you can sign up using the instructions for signing up online. I did everything online and even ported over my ATT&T number with zero problems.
