Ringtone issue, any others experienced this...

I wear an LG headset with earbuds and when my phone rings, it plays the ringtones assigned to my contact, but the headphones play a generic ringtone. I use the different tones to identify callers because I only answer calls from a few select people while working and I have to take out my phone to identify the caller now. I used this same headset with my IP6S+, and it played the same tone on the phone and the earbuds. Is there an app that will address this or is it just an Android thing?

I don't think I have come across this, myself. However, receiving calls is a rare thing for me, and I don't usually have my headphones plugged into my device. Are these custom ringtones? Do different headsets give a different result?
