SD card detected but not usable

I inserted an SD card into a Nokia 1 Plus (Android 10). Under Settings - Storage it is displayed correctly as nearly empty. But when I try to move apps to the card it is said "Not enough storage".

Does anyone have a clue? All hints and tips so far refer to cards not being detected. But this card is being detected correctly. It's that the phone (or the OS) refuses to use it.

EDIT: Thanks, B Diddy for your reply. I needed to reformat the card a few times, now it seems to be working properly. Weird.

The card could be counterfeit (meaning it's a much smaller card than what it reports -- unfortunately, still fairly common, especially if you didn't get the card from a reputable retailer). Or it could just be corrupt or defective. Are you able to use it in another device, or in a computer?
