Lol.. Well I'm just a night person. But I do need a ton of sleep so come morning I always wish I had gone to bed earlier. Hate mornings.
Yeah I hate mornings as well. Especially with how cold it is getting here in Harrisburg, PA. I walk out for my morning smoke and I want to punch a kitten. Oh well lets get to the good stuff.
First thing that we need to do is make sure the batteries are charged up. Hopefully it will not be necessary to use them all that much, but if we have to do some flashing we will want a full charge.
So now we get to turn the puppies on. I am not even sure if you will hit the activation screen, you might just have one that says insert sim or whatever. No matter which screen you get, hitting the home button should just take you right to the lock screen. I am assuming that the default language is going to be English, and we are not going to be spending any more time than we need to setting things up so we can skip all the usual garbage.
Unlock the phone and go into settings-->wifi. Turn it on and enter the network password if you have one. make sure that it connects. Hit the google play store and download root checker. It is free so no worries there. Run the root checker. If it comes up that your phone is not rooted, then don't worry about it, we are good on this part. If it is rooted we will deal with that in a bit
Moving on. Lets go to about phone and check the build number. It should be 3.14.605.12. The baseband number should be 1.22.10.0421r, 1.22.10.0424r. The kernel should start out 3.0.16-gd0049f1 htc-kernel@u18000-build-144#1 smp preempt. That is the most current ICS stock build. If that checks out then lets just stop there and do a factory reset and turn it off. We are good there.
Now lets move the the problem child (the one a version behind). Start out the same and run the root checker. I know that this may seem redundant, but I want to save us hassles or be ready for problems.
If we are not rooted on this one. lets just run the updater and see what happens. If the updater goes through, verify the numbers above and do a factory reset and we are done.
If the update does not happen lets check the numbers and see where we stand. The build number should be 2.01.605.11. If that is where we are then good. if not stop here and let me know.
since we are on a stock GB and want to get to stock ICS, we are going to do it the easiest way we can this is going to take up to half an hour, and it is very important that you have the phone securely connected and that it will stay that way. I am not trying to give you a scare, but the only phone that I have seen made a paperweight was one in which the cord came out while flashing. Made sure you have it plugged in tight and no one is going to kick it off the table.
got it?
you sure?
ok lets do this thing.
download this file:
Shipped ROMs
connect your phone and make sure the computer recognizes it. If it does not, then you need to disconnect, download the drivers (
HTC Rezound). When you install those, all you need are the drivers so you can skip the other stuff (the sync stuff).
OK now that it is installed, reconnect the phone. Double click the first file that you downloaded and let it do its thing. it will take awhile, it more than likely reboot a few times dont worry and don't pull the plug. It will more often than not throw up "installation failed" if there is something wrong.
Once it does its thing successfully check the numbers to make sure they match with the very first set (the ICS ones) and do another reset....
Have a beer we are done. If it fails anywhere along these lines, I will on until at least 1AM EST and let me know what went wrong.
