Typing Email malfunctioning

Despite having settings set up to auto capitalize our add a period by tapping space bar twice, this function no longer works . Spell check also not working . And when typing symbols it will duplicate it ie type a parentheses and type a letter it will duplicate parentheses again and ignore letter . Type a dollar sign it won't accept the number following it will duplicate dollar sign . What is going on? It's not just Gmail it's on 2 different emails set up on samsung6. I have another Samsung6 and it still works fine . I can not get email to work right anymore .

Something similar happens to me. I have autocapitalize checked, but it only works when I text, not when I write emails. Also, numbers get automatically replaced with periods but only when I'm writing emails, not in texts. Have checked all my settings but can't find anything to explain this.
