Why does my phone say headphones connected when they're not?

[Android Central Question]

I was just playing music on my phone and it stopped. When I checked my phone I say the headphone's icon even though they weren't plugged in. I powered off then restarted my phone and nothing changed. I plugged in headphones and plugged them out and nothing changed. I even tried cleaning the headphone port with a Q-
tip and it's still the same. What should I do?

Which phone? You try cleaning the headphone jack?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you certain the headphone icon is for wired headphones? Is it possible the phone is connecting to a pair of Bluetooth earphones you have lying around?
