why is file being edited (fstab) not taking the edit?

I'm trying to edit the "fstab" file in my root. Have used both ES & FX file editors and had the file set as r/w. When the file is saved it shows the changes, but after reboot it switches back to the original text. What am I doing wrong?

Where are you editing it? In the phone or on a computer? Lines with Windows or Mac end-of-lines will be thrown out.

The file I found is in the root directory and is named 'fstab.sun6i'. I have mounted the folder prior to editing as r/w and don't know what else to do.

Look for (unfortunately I don't think busybox includes the where command) another fstab file. The one you found may be getting rewritten from another one on boot.

I've searched for the fstab file using both ES & FX with no luck. The only one I find is the one I mentioned. I'm running 4.4.2 KitKat - don't know if that's the problem or not.

Have also tried to save a copy of the file with an. old suffix but it won't save either. Do have the file set to r/ws so I think it should.
