Why won't my phone light up when I get notifications?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime with 5.1.1 os. The screen lights up when I get text messages but does not do the same for other apps like facebook messenger and snapchat. I like the screen to light up so I can see notifications when it is on silent. Any help is appreciated.

What do you mean by the "screen lights up?" If you mean the flash flashes, then here is the answer:

Light up functionality is a subsection of the accessibility functionality native to the phone. It only works with native apps, sadly. It won't even work with a third party messaging app (not even the Google Messenger app). Sorry, man, for now you're out of luck.​

No I literally mean my screen doesn't light up. Not the light. It doesn't turn on.. light up. Thanks for taking the time to respond though!
