How will you feel if VZW Galaxy S3 & HTC get Jelly Bean first?

So sick of hearing the "rooting voids your warranty" argument.

It is damn near impossible to brick this phone by tinkering with it, so unless your phone is just COMPLETELY dead, you can always return to stock, unroot, and relock your phone, so how would VZW or anyone else ever know you rooted?

And if it is completely dead...Again, how would they find out its rooted?

If you don't want to root, that's fine, but please stop using this as one of the reasons...

It does void it, it makes it voidable, at least from how it's worded and how I believe it could be reasonably (and properly) construed. :D

In tribute to you, I am now making this my only reason why I won't root. Typically, I love it when anonymous people on the Internet tell me what to think based on what they are sick of reading, but sometimes the rebel in me wins out. I was gonna root tonight too!

God, I love my warranty. I'm glad I still have it, unlike you rooters.

Not sure if your being funny or what. Rooting does not void your warranty, you can always return to stock. Don't let Verizon do this to you take control of your device and put jelly bean on it.

As far as if this were to really happen I would be super pissed. The reason I bought this phone was I thought Verizon couldn't touch this phone. Boy was I wrong, what they did to the s3 And the nexus I'm really thinking about leaving Verizon even though I have unlimited data. That way I could get a gsm nexus the only true nexus anyway. Screw Verizon.

Go to T-Mobile with their new plans. Heck, I'm thinking of doing it.

There coverage isn't very good in my area I checked already. Lol At&t is the only one that can kinda equal Verizon but there kinda just as bad. :( there is no winning when it comes to carriers. Wish T-Mobile would spend more money on towers. Or hey maybe Google could become a carrier that would be great.

I'm sure you were...

My point is, there is no way for Verizon or anyone to know that you rooted, therefore, no reason for your warranty to be voided, so how is this a valid reason against rooting?

As I said, if you don't want to root...fine, that's your decision, but the reasoning behind it should at least make sense.

Sorry to hear you won't root because of one persons post. Do you think that person really cares? It is you losing out not him.

Anyway, us rooters are loving our warranty as well because we took the time to learn how to go back to stock if something should go wrong. Only real difference between us rooters and the non rooters are we are enjoying JB right now where you might be lucky if you see it in the next 2 months or so.

There is absolutely no reason in the world not to root the GNEX. It is so brick proof that it is not even funny. It is also super easy to go back to stock and no one will ever know it was rooted.

We all know its easy to unroot and still have a warranty.... and the whole "no one will ever know"

But some of us view it as wrong because your playing the system 'so to say'

Just because you dont get caught doesnt make something OK....

lol...we're talking about VZW here...the kings of doing things that are against the rules.

If my provider doesn't care about rules, why should I listen to theirs?

But by all means...you go ahead and take the "high road".

Re: How will you feel if VZW Galaxy S3 & HTC get Jelly Bean first

Or maybe it's any number of other things. I've put forth about a half dozen honestly good reasons that I don't personally root including one in this thread (and no, it's not my joke about the warrantee), but now you've made me have to go here.

I just don't give a crap.
Honestly.

I don't feel bad saying that, since you root zealots have invaded our threads and not the other way around. Seriously guys. Different strokes for different folks. This reminds me of the elitism I saw during the early 90s. People who were on the "real internet" hating on AOL users, people with CD-ROM feeling superior to people without it, etc.

Just live and let live and please try to stay out of threads that don't concern you if you know in advance that the posts in those threads will make you mad. That goes double if you're one of those people who's never met a reply button they didn't like.

Let's stop having threads shift from the actual topic to root v. non-root. So yeah, let's stop this line of discussion on all sides, ok?

Also, I'm quoting this post because it's the last one that should address this topic. Thanks.

This was one reason I was reluctant because I was concerned about ethics

Its a misconception though. When people unroot for warranty it is for hardware issues... rooting is a software change, Verizon/Samsung/Google don't want to have to fix problems from software they didn't sell and that's fair, but if my hardware is defective
when I am back fully stock then there's no ethical issue (and Verizon wouldn't care) with restoring stock.

I'm guessing that it's not off topic to say that I will be fine if the S3 gets it first. I don't personally care if someone else has it before me unless they need to come into our forum and get dumb about it.

well... the Verizon CDMA S3 got JB first.... (a few days later than the GSM S3 phones)

ok, so it's only a leaked JB release for Verizon CDMA S3, not the official OTA JB. :)
at least it's better than nothing. there's been no leaked JB for VZW CDMA GNex, AFAIK. :(

What leak? All of the leaks that have been seen have been for the gsm versions.

If it's not a leaked OTA it doesn't count.

Re: How will you feel if VZW Galaxy S3 & HTC get Jelly Bean first

Yeah, I know of no such leaked OTA for Verizon, so I'm not sure where he's getting it from.

Me neither. No major places are carrying it, can't find a single thing.

Re: How will you feel if VZW Galaxy S3 & HTC get Jelly Bean first

It now seems more likely that Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S3 and certain Verizon/HTC phones
will receive Jelly Bean OTA first. (BEFORE the VZW CDMA Galaxy Nexus)

Yes, anybody can get Jelly Bean on their VZW Galaxy Nexus right now by flashing it, but
that's not the point...

How will you feel if this really happens?

its not going to happen. theyll happen simultaneously

I really don't care. I like ICS and waiting for the next update is always an endless cycle. As soon as jelly bean is out people will be worry about the next release.

Verizon is taking a bit longer than I had hoped to allow Jelly Bean to be pushed. I know their network is tricky but it seems like they have five guys testing updates around there. Hire more update staff Verizon
