Losing chat history

The last few days when I restart my phone, I receive a message from Whatsapp indicating there is a problem with my chat history. Whatsapp then does a restore which always goes back to the same point in time several days ago and I lose my messages from the days after that point.

What is causing this and how can I fix it?

The problem might be caused by accidental error, and WhatsApp restored the backup chat history made several days ago.

To restore the lost chat history, you need to check whether those lost messages have been backed up to local storage or Google Drive. For local backup, you can install a file manager app and go to WhatsApp> Databases, and then check the date of msgstore.db.crypt files. For Google Drive backup (WhatsApp beta version), open WhatsApp app and go to Settings> Chats> Chat backup.
