This keyboard is TERRIBLE!! How to change without root?

I just picked up a used Fire (non-HD, first gen) so I can stream my Prime Video and it's a great little tablet except for one thing - the stock kindle keyboard makes me want to throw it out the window!! Is it possible to install Switfkey (or ANY other keyboard!) without rooting it? I've got Go Launcher working and with 1mobile's help I've pretty much got every ap I want/need. I have to switch back to the stock launcher to stream Prime video, but that's no biggie. So overall, I really love this thing - except for that keyboard. I hate hate HATE it! I've googled looking for a way to do it, but so far I've only been able to change the language, not the keyboard. Any ideas?
