Hi I have a galaxy grand prime and my version is 5.1.1, I go on to the YouTube app and I can not play videos abobe 480p quality and I'm not sure if it's my phone or?

Welcome to Android Central! Install an app like System Info for Android to get information like the actual resolution of the screen.

According to the specs online, your phone has a 960 x 540 resolution, which is not HD. HD is at least 720p. So the next step down in YouTube is 480p.
