download resource while installing apk

is it possible to download some image form external link (say from server) while installation of application is in progress?

Probably, but both will happen more slowly than if you were only doing one.

Try this: use your browser to navigate to wherever the file you want to download is. Don't start the download. Then switch to the the play store and search for the app you want to install (or, if it's not from the play store, go to wherever you're going to install it from. Start the download and install. Switch back to the browser, and start downloading your file.

The app download and install should continue [slowly] in the background while your file downloads in the foreground.

can we do the same through application during application installation process.

If you're asking if you can do something in application x, while downloading and installing an update for application x, I'm not sure. My guess is that you could download the update, but not install it.

For example, if you're playing WWF, you could probably start the download in the play store while playing the game, but when the phone starts to install the update, it will probably either fail, or shut down the app automatically. That's really just a guess, though.
