Under Accounts are google, dropbox, open table and Twitter. Other than google, why do the other apps need to be there? Or conversely , why are dozens of other apps I have with accounts NOT there? What is the common denominator of apps that show up here?

I believe all of these apps are System apps and somehow integrated with the Android System. Location and settings are part of what you can get there. What phone do you have? Did you get free dropbox storage with it? If so, it's likely because they wanted you to backup with Dropbox and therefore had to give it more permissions than a normal app would be able to get.

I installed those apps myself long ago. It is lg4 Verizon phone. Have had the phone a year. Just noticed those "accounts". Maybe sync related?
