Android Central Question

Every time my wife makes a phone call and hangs up she gets an ad at the end. I figured out it's the Calldorado apk. However, we don't know which of her apps installed this. Is there a way to figure this out? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Android Central Forums.

I would delete the apk. Tried a quick Google search and it appears to be some sort of caller ID app.

Welcome to Android Central! It may not have been another app that installed it. If your wife got a browser popup ad at some point and mistook it for a real notification or warning, she might have tapped a link that downloaded that apk, and then perhaps she followed instructions to open it.

Thanks for the reply. I have been registered since I owned a Palm Treo. However, every time I tried to log in and generate a new password, it wouldn't work. I tried a different email and creating a new account, but that didn't work. Finally, I got through to Help and then deleted my new account and fixed my old. Anyway, where can I find the APK on her phone? It's not rooted, so I don't think I can see APKs are installed. There is nothing listed in her Apps drawer. I think she installed something that asked for Calldorado to be turned on and she turned it on, but it's been it for a while she says, so we have no idea what app she clicked to wind up with it. It is a real PITA. I will never understand why advertisers think intrusive advertising is going to work because I'll never buy anything from something that is shoved in my face. Anyway, thanks.

I suspect that's what happened. She probably installed some app that was using it and turned it on, but for the life of us, we don't know what that was, especially since it's been a while since she has had the problem.

If the apk is still even present on the phone, I don't think deleting it would help, because that's just a package installer file, not the active app. You'd have to figure out which app the apk installed. This can be challenging since it would mean looking through the entire list of apps in Settings>Apps, and trying to identify an app that doesn't belong (which can be tough because there can be a lot of preinstalled apps that you might not be familiar with in the first place).

It also might not be a traditional app at all, if what was downloaded was a malicious package that, when launched, injected some other kind of malware.
