Problem auto backup of Mediatek tablet

I have a generic Chinese made tablet - a Mediatek TYD-108H running Android 6.0 . I have been looking at the automatic backups and something puzzles me. The tablet backs up overnight automatically OK but, when I check the backup on Google Drive it shows only 10 apps have been backed up. Given that I've got about 80 non-Google apps installed, I find this puzzling.

1. All apps have been downloaded off Play Store.
2. The backup certainly shows up on Google Drive but with only 10 apps backed up. The apps backed up all seem to be Google apps + YouTube app. Nothing else.
3. I have checked via Settings on my tablet and cannot find any way at all of doing a manual backup !! I have looked in Settings/apps, Settings /Backup, and even looked in Developer options but there is no visible option I can see to do a manual backup.

So, how do I get ALL my apps backed up on the automatic backup and how can I initiate my own manual backup ??

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to Android Central! It's common for these cheap no-name or off-brand devices to lie about their specs, so I wonder if that device actually has an Android version lower than Marshmallow. (The Auto-backup feature was introduced in Marshmallow: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/backup).

Try running some of the device info apps that Smoorez uses to detect the real specs of the devices he tests -- see a list in the description of his videos:

I have run some of the "fake specs" apps - a couple of them state that I have Android 5x as opposed to the Android 6 stated. There is also a discrepancy with some showing my tablet has 32gb RAM while a couple of apps say 12gb although they say there might be "simulated SD memory.... All very confusing to me.

But, how would any of this affect my backup question?? It auto backs up ok, just that it leaves most of my apps out. And, is there any setting for forcing a manual backup - I cannot find any !!

It's important because as I mentioned above, the full Google Auto-backup was introduced with Marshmallow. So if the tablet is actually running Lollipop (which is likely, since at least one of those apps reported it), then it's not capable of the full auto-backup.

Thanks for your helpful advice. I guess I'll have to rely on my own backup using the app "SMScontacts backup" although the full Google backup would have been more efficient if I buy a new tablet.

Actually, that poses another question if you don't mind. As an alternative to buying a new tablet would it work if I took it to a shop to have the OS upgraded, maybe to Android 9 or equivalent ?? Would be a lot cheaper, no??

No, you can't upgrade the OS that way. Either the manufacturer has to come out with an official update (which would never happen with these no-name devices), or someone would have to design a custom ROM for the device (which generally never happens for these kinds of devices either). Sorry!
