Getting unexpected password prompt

about a week ago a message started popping up asking for a password. When I hit cancel it goes away. Why is this?

What could you have installed recently that is causing this?

When this password prompt pops up have you tried going to your apps/manage apps and see what is currently running and look for something out of the ordinary.
